Interrogation Photos to Be Released

Recently, our new "Change" President announced that the government would release photos and documents that showed the "cruelty" of American military members when interrogating prisoners. Apparently we, the only country who appears to do so, did not follow the Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners of war (by the way, those we have captured do not meet the criteria of a POW, so are not technically protected by that convention). I do not condone killing or maiming detainees...but I do condone our Intelligence people using whatever means necessary to get the information from them that will protect Americans. Here is an excerpt from an article I read in the Washington Times called Loose Lips or Loose Pics, Equally dangerous to national security. It compared the Nation's attitude now with that back during WWII. Here it is:

In an act that would have been unheard of during World War II, the Pentagon, in response to a lawsuit by the never-vigilant American Civil Liberties Union, will release by the end of May photos depicting the purported abuse of detainees in Iraq and Afghanistan by American personnel. No doubt this will make people who regard America - or at least the Bush administration - as a greater evil than al Qaeda feel better. It also is bound to encourage our enemies and discourage intelligence officers who risk their lives daily in faraway places to protect Americans and our way of life.
In any game, much less a war, when one player plays by a set of rules and the other plays by no rules at all, it does not take a genius to conclude who will win. America's enemies know how to play us and how to use our Constitution, legal system, the media and public opinion to advance their ends, while frustrating ours.
America-haters expect the public to recoil at tactics far less severe than the ones they use. They want us to believe our behavior is directly linked to theirs and that if we don't use techniques to extract information from suspected terrorists - information that might save American lives - then they won't torture Americans who might have information they need to help them kill more of us.

I can honestly say that if I were about to be captured in Iraq or Afghanistan, I would shoot myself in the head...because if I didn't do it then, after much torture and suffering...my enemy would. How many "POWs" have been returned alive from those two theaters? I'll tell you.....ZERO!!! The only ones who have returned have been headless or rescued. We are lying to ourselves if we think that if we treat them better they will treat us better. That is old school thinking that no longer applies. They need to be scared to get captured. Our enemies want all Americans dead, not just uniformed ones, at any cost...so we had better do what we need to do to defeat them!

Holiday Inn ROCKS!!!!!

I am at my second Holiday Inn Express in a week and they have both been....The Bomb!!! This one in Osh Kosh not only has the complimentary breakfast in the morning, but also has a complimentary lounge in the evenings for two hours. I was told the owner does it at all his Holiday Inn Express hotels. The hotel itself is really nice...what I would expect from a major hotel. So, this is my unsolicited plug for Holiday Inn...I'm glad I have rewards with them, because I will be using them all the time now.

From 7 We Go To 5....

Tonight was the dreaded disco night on American Idol. Why they keep doing this theme each year I will never know. Tonight was proof that Paula Abdul really is a nut case and should be locked in a padded round room so she doesn't hurt herself. She babbles, says stupid things, and then barely hides her drooling over Adam's performance...which, by the way...was again very very good. And Matt should have been allowed to leave last week, cuz I did NOT like his performance this week. I predict that Lil Rounds and Matt will go home this week.

A Very Good Burger!!

I had not heard of Culvers before coming north for my business trip. I went over to one across the street from my hotel and had a Cheddar Butterburger. This burger was so good!!! No more expensive than eating at McDonalds, I thought this burger was much better and I really enjoyed the french fries. Afterward I had a Butterscotch shake...I haven't had one for so long. A very good meal for a good price. I will definitely eat at a Culver's again!

The Future of Your Army

I just spent the last week at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) at the George C. Marshall Conference. This is a conference that recognizes the top ROTC Cadets from around the country. It was a very good conference with several senior current and past leaders in the Army imparting their knowledge and wisdom upon the Cadets. On Thursday, the Corps of Cadets conducted a parade for us...and inspiring sight to say the least.

Totally Shocked!!!

I cannot believe that the judges on American Idol WASTED their save on Matt. I missed all the performances on Tuesday night, but if he sang anything like he did tonight, he should have been kicked off without performing again. That was one of the worst performances since we last had to endure Sanjaya!! Hopefully he will go home next week, and now there is no save for someone much more deserving later on.

Blown Away!!!

Now I never cared for Adam Lambert from the beginning, but I think it was more his look than anything...because this guy can sing!!!! I don't know the song he sang tonight, never heard it before...but he showed such control over his voice, the unbelievable range and purity of his sound. I swear he sang most of his song falsetto, which is no easy feat...especially staying in tune. He got a standing ovation from Simon and a new found respect from me. I pick him to win it all with Allison as his competition in the finals. You heard it from me!

Movie Review - Australia

I had heard the warnings that this movie was too long (about 3 hours) and a bit slow moving, but I rather liked it. It did plod along at times, but the story takes a bit to tell. It is based around a cattle ranch in Australia and the children of mixed blood (black and white). I thought Hugh Jackman did a pretty good job of acting and Nicole Kidman gave her typical performance (never much cared for her). I would recommend getting this movie to watch, but make sure you have the time. Worth a rent.

Protecting the Unborn

When should we protect the unborn? Oklahoma recently passed a law allowing a mother to use deadly force to protect her unborn child. This stems from an incident where the boyfriend of a pregnant woman punched her in the stomach and she stabbed him to death. The babies (4) died and she was convicted of manslaughter. Talk about irony!!! This same mother could have aborted these four babies and not faced any criminal charges at all! Now I agree with this new law to protect the babies, but how is it that a woman can kill to protect the same babies the law gives her the right to kill? If we don't consider the life protected when it is conceived, then why bother at all until the baby is born. After all...it is just a fetus...right? We are a sick people.

Megan Goes Home...Finally!!!

American Idol voters finally sent this girl packing. She has been terrible the past few weeks and it hurt to hear her sing her song again tonight. While she was waiting with Anoop to here who was going to go home she had the dumbest look on her face...what a dufus! Well, at least some of the better bad ones are still there and not her. We will see....
